40th Anniversary North East Fire Service International Sports Event
Rescue International Sports Tournament. This years, 1st September hands across the water event was at the Gateshead Hilton Hotel. Over 500 spectators and 200 emergency participating staff were in attendance. The tournament included boxing with the North East select team V the USA select team. The USA select team included boxers from Boston Massachusetts State Troopers, Denver Colorado and New York blue light services.
This years tournament was largely organised by Crew Manager Michael Brayson of Tyne & Wear Fire and Rescue Service, with the support of his Chief Fire Officer Mr Chris Lowther. Michael, an amateur boxer himself, pulled together a mixture of boxers from Darlington & Durham Fire Service, Northumberland Fire Service and Tyne & Wear Fire Service.
This amazing evening helped raise over £5,000 from ticket sales, raffle tickets, auctions and donations but most importantly awareness and appreciation of all emergency services local and abroad.
