SK Foods is a market leader in providing ready meals, snack food and party food for the UK market. The company has a unique range of core manufacturing capabilities for frying, kettle cooking, baking and sauce creation. This enables innovative design and production of high demand product ranges.

SK Foods employ over 800 staff and has an annual turnover in excess of £80m. The popularity of the companies food ranges sees a 7 day, 24 hour, 363 days per year production site operation.

The SK Foods client list is a who’s who giant roll call including Marks and Spencer, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Lidl.

ROFLOW have undertaken many contracts across the SK Foods sites. These include design, manufacture and installation of food production area and high care packing area ventilation / environmental conditioning. Additional projects for fryer and oven process, fume extract, odour abatement and ingredient mix dust extraction have also been carried out.

The recent South Bank manufacturing plant contract was a challenging upgrade project for ventilation and conditioning. The Packing Line Area required 12 No. packaging lines with high care over-pressure for the finished produce. The expansive layout unfolds with adjacent nitrogen tunnel plant and intensive tray wash facility also requiring replacement air. This application being a higher than usual replacement air value.

The client stated air temperature for the area was to be 8 – 10⁰C. The ventilation scheme design required a high recirculation air volume in order to achieve the substantial cooling duty.

Upon survey and study, the ROFLOW solution was a multifarious high performing energy efficient air handling scheme, providing audit compliant operation and being engineered to fit the available space. We also selected a variable inverter controlled fresh supply air volume design. This allows for precise economical fresh air introduction and affords unnecessary encumbrance on energy cost.

The air handling plant has ducted mechanical recirculation and refrigerant cooling. The system includes high efficiency multi-stage classified filtration with multiple ceiling mounted textile (food grade) supply ducts.
